About Rebekah Yang
Enru Rebekah Yang is a multifaceted classical musician with an international career spanning performance, pedagogy, leadership, and cultural exchange. Born in Singapore and educated in the United States, she performs across North and South America and Asia as a soloist, chamber musician, and arts advocate. Known for her deeply expressive and emotionally honest sound, she brings a rare authenticity that feels raw and personal.
As a pedagogue and arts leader, Rebekah is the Founder, Executive Director, and Artistic Director of the Swan International Music Festival in Singapore, fostering holistic classical music mentorship, performance, international exchange, and regional student engagement across the ASEAN region. She has presented lectures and masterclasses internationally, including at the University of São Paulo by invitation of André Luis Micheletti, and served as a teaching assistant at the Meadowmount School of Music for renowned pedagogue Hans Jørgen Jensen, Tom Landschoot, and Wei Yu.
As a performer, Rebekah has appeared in concert series across the United States, Asia, and South America, including the Great Performers Series in Northern California and the Crocker Art Series. Recent collaborations include Jaime Laredo, Sharon Robinson, Brinton Smith, the Galvin Cello Quartet, and members of the Shanghai Quartet, and upcoming highlights include the Dvořák Cello Concerto with the Orquestra Sinfônica de Piracicaba in São Paulo, conducted by William Coelho.
She holds a Bachelor of Music from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, and graduated as the sole summa cum laude recipient. She was a faculty-appointed representative to the School of Music Faculty Executive Committee, principal cellist of the Philharmonia Orchestra, and Gluck Fellow, engaging the greater Los Angeles with community centered concerts.
She earned her Master's at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University under Hans Jørgen Jensen as an Eckstein Merit Scholar. She served as the principal cellist of the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Music at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music as the Eva Heinitz Award recipient and a 2025 IU Ventures Fellow.
Rebekah performs on a rare 1806 Franz Geissenhof cello and a Eugene Sartory bow, and has studied with Hans Jørgen Jensen, Antonio Lysy, Brandon Vamos, Amos Yang, and Susan Lamb Cook.
